Sister and Ward Manager Linda Broadbent from Clifton Hospital in Lytham St Annes has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for her patients' families.
Clinical Matron Courtney Bickerdike paid tribute to her colleague,
"Linda was a pioneer at Clifton hospital in developing our Dementia Café which is held once a month for all carers and patients who are living with dementia in the community setting. She arranges for guest speakers to attend and various organisations who can offer support to carers. The café provides a network for carers and patients who have recently been diagnosed with dementia and are struggling to deal with the news. It has become a place where they can meet monthly and have the support of others in the same situation.
"Also twice a year Linda organises a larger event now known as a Dementia Hub and invites several charity and voluntary organisations and outside agencies to put up a stand at our hospital for all carers from across the Fylde Coast to attend. This day have proven to be very popular and we have lots of carers attending to seek out information on what help they can obtain.
"Linda was also instrumental in seeking out a Pets as Therapy dog who visits our wards and provides comfort to patients particularly our dementia patients."
